FAQ’s about Online Counselling

Why should I choose online counselling?
Online counselling is chosen by people for a variety of reasons.

  • Great for any age or stage of life.
  • Convenience: clients can receive professional support from the comfort and safety of their own home, their workplace and even while travelling.
  • Confidentiality: for some people, the very idea of attending a face to face counselling session may feel overwhelming. Whether this is due to location, work/life imbalance, close knit community or a variety of other reasons. Online counselling can provide a more comfortable option allowing them access to the support they are seeking and need.

Is online therapy effective?

  • Online counselling is not only convenient but can be just as effective as face-to-face counselling for certain individuals.
  • The effectiveness of this method of therapy is dependent on various factors. The specific needs of each client should be assessed to ensure that online counselling is appropriate to the situation.
  • Clients should also be aware of their own ability to engage in online counselling and decrease distractions. Minimizing personal diversions and committing greatly increases the effectiveness of your session time, the therapist, and the overall process of online counselling.

Are receipts provided for private insurance/work benefits?

  • Yes, all clients are provided with a receipt for sessions paid.

FAQ’s about Family Mediation

What do family mediators do?

  • Mediation is a cooperative problem-solving process by which a neutral professional helps people in conflict clearly define the issues in dispute to reach agreements that are in the best interests of their family.
  • Sheila has been successful at helping many families, especially families considered as high conflict, come to a successful mediated parenting agreement.

What are the advantages of mediation?

  • Mediation can be much more cost effective than court proceedings.
  • Mediation allows for open discussion and communication between the two parties with the guidance of a professional trained to move the process forward in a timely manner.

If I already have a lawyer, is it too late to try mediation?

  • Mediation is still available. You can keep or hire a lawyer to give you advice and then do most of the negotiation work yourself at a much lower cost in mediation.
  • Many lawyers are happy to have their clients work with mediators to resolve most or all of the issues outside of court. A large portion of Sheila’s referrals have come from Family Lawyers.

FAQ’s about Art Therapy

What is Art Therapy?

  • Art therapy helps children, adolescents and adults explore their emotions. It combines the creative process and psychotherapy, facilitating self-exploration and understanding. Using imagery, colour and shape as part of this creative therapeutic process, thoughts and feelings can be expressed that would otherwise be difficult to articulate.
  • Art therapy is a safe and effective way to work with clients of all ages. Drawing utilizes the right side of the brain, where our sensory and emotional experiences are stored. Art as a tool in therapy, specifically when dealing with grief and trauma, can get to the root of the matter much quicker than just talking.

I am not creative or artistic, is Art Therapy still going to help me?

  • No artistic talent is necessary for art therapy to be successful. The process is not about the artistic value of the work, but rather about the associations between the creative choices made and a client’s life.

Is Art Therapy only for children?

  • Art therapy is effective for people of any age.
